Eugene Levy and Deborah Divine Have Been Together for Nearly 5 Decades, and Their 'Ship Is the Sweetest
Attention confused people who still think Eugene Levy and Catherine O'Hara are in a real-life relationship thanks to their years of playing couples in TV and movies: they are! just! friends! In fact, Eugene has been happily married to his wife Deborah Divine for a full 47 years, which is more than pretty much any celebrity couple can say. Here's a quick love story starring THEM as you settle into your Emmys viewing.
Eugene and Deborah Have Been Together Since the '70s
A baffling time full of bell-bottom jeans and flower crowns, where everyone wandered around looking like they were on their way to Coachella. Anyway, tbd on how these two met (gotta assume Canada's comedy scene?), but they made it official and married in 1977, going on to have Dan Levy in 1983 and then their daughter Sarah Levy (who also stars in Schitt's Creek) in 1986.
Deborah Is Also in the Industry
She was a screen writer on Maniac Mansion, a '90s TV series about "an amiable mad scientist who moves his family into a home inhabited by a sentient meteor." I am...seated.
Eugene Is Her Biggest Fan
While Deb mostly stays out of the spotlight, Eugene simply cannot stop gushing about his wife every chance he gets. Like when he won the Emmy for Schitt's Creek and said "I first want to thank my darling wife of 43 years, Deb Divine, for all the love, support and sage counsel over the years. I wouldn't be up here without you, Deb. I love you."
Or when he recently accepted a well-earned star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and said "You can't have your name put on a star on Hollywood Boulevard without someone having your back, and Deb's had mine for 47 years. There would be no star today without you."
Oh, AND he revealed Deborah is the family's resident "funny one," saying, “Here’s some irony for you: I’m not the funny guy in my family. That mantel belongs to my wife, Deb, and yet I’m getting the star. Go figure.”
Deb Is V Low Key
While she prefers to stay out of the spotlight, she and her husband do walk red carpets together! A quick retrospective of some of their cute moments:
And She Is Super Supportive of Dan
Back in 2020, Deborah tweeted this on a since-deactivated account: "Today I regret every single second of worry back in the uninformed '80s-wondering how the world was going to treat my brilliant little boy who loved to twirl. Little did I know that he was going to kick that old world's ass to the curb and create a brand new one."
Dan actually spoke about seeing the tweet with Drew Barrymore, saying, "I know. I know, it took us all by surprise, listen. Moms. Moms, you know. Yeah, she's a great writer. She's a great writer. She's the greatest."
On that sweet note...that's all we've got on Deborah. As we said, she and Eugene like to keep their private life private, but look out for her making an appearance at the 2024 Emmy Awards, which—reminder—Eugene and Dan Levy are hosting.
