Emilia Clarke, Edgar Ramirez and Jack Farthing to Star in Drake Doremus’ ‘Next Life’

Emilia Clarke (“Game of Thrones”), Edgar Ramirez (“Emilia Perez”) and Jack Farthing (“Spencer”) will star in “Next Life” from writer-director Drake Doremus (“Like Crazy”), L.A. and London-based production and management company 42, Mutressa and Fetisoff Illusion have announced.

“Next Life” tells the love story of Ivy (Emilia Clarke), who finds herself confronted with parallel universes in which her life unspools in very different ways set against the modern London jazz scene.

Mutressa’s Elika Portnoy, Gleb Fetisoff of Fetisoff Illusion and 42’s Ben Pugh and Kate Buckley are producing alongside Doremus. John Palfery Smith will also produce. Production is currently underway in London and set to wrap in late December. CAA Media Finance is representing worldwide rights.

Clarke is best known for her role as Daenerys Targaryen in the HBO award winning series “Game of Thrones,” for which she received four Emmy nominations and three Critics Choice Award nominations. Upcoming, she leads Peacock’s espionage thriller “Ponies” alongside Haley Lu Richardson. Clarke also serves as an executive producer on the series. She recently wrapped production on Amazon’s limited series “Criminal,” which also stars Charlie Hunnam and Adria Arjona.

Clarke also starred in the award-winning Sundance film “The Pod Generation” opposite Chiwetel Ejiofor, and in Marvel’s limited series “Secret Invasion” opposite Samuel L. Jackson, Olivia Colman, and Kingsley Ben-Adir. Additional credits include Paul Feig’s romantic dramedy “Last Christmas,” Ron Howard’s “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” “Me Before You” and “Terminator: Genisys.” In 2022, Clarke made her West End stage debut in Anya Reiss’ adaptation of Anton Chekhov’s “The Seagull.”

Ramirez can currently be seen starring in the critically acclaimed “Emilia Perez” from director Jacques Audiard for Netflix, and is set to star alongside Oscar nominee Samuel L. Jackson in the new action-comedy “The Honest Liar,” written and directed by Wayne Kramer. His feature credits include “The Bourne Ultimatum,” the Academy Award-nominated action thriller “Zero Dark Thirty” and Netflix’s comedy “Yes Day.” His starring turn in the 2010 biopic miniseries “Carlos” received widespread acclaim, and earned him a Golden Globe and an Emmy nomination. Ramirez also starred in FX’s lauded miniseries “The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story” as Gianni Versace and HBO’s “The Undoing.”

Farthing is known for his roles in Oscar-nominated films including “Spencer” opposite Kristen Stewart, and “The Lost Daughter” alongside Olivia Colman, in addition to “Official Secrets” with Keira Knightly. In the TV world, Farthing is best known for his role as the main antagonist in “Poldark” and his leading role in “Rain Dogs,” for which he was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award. His next project is the BBC’s adaptation of Agatha Christie’s “Towards Zero,” and his next film, “Islands,” will premiere in early 2025.

Doremus is a director, producer and screenwriter best known for the acclaimed romantic drama “Like Crazy” starring Felicity Jones and Anton Yelchin, which won the Grand Jury Prize for Best Dramatic Feature at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival. Following this success, he went on to direct features including “Breathe In,” “Equals” starring Kristen Stewart and Nicholas Hoult, and “Newness,” a modern take on romance in the digital age again starring Hoult alongside Laia Costa. Most recently, he directed “Endings, Beginnings” starring Shailene Woodley, Sebastian Stan and Jamie Dornan.
