Elizabeth Day Says She Turned Down Joining Hayu’s ‘Real Housewives Of London’ Cast: “I Don’t Think I Could Cope”

Elizabeth Day revealed she was approached to star in The Real Housewives of London but turned down the opportunity.

Hayu is developing its first original series, adapting the Bravo franchise, and setting it in London.

During an appearance on Alison Hammond’s podcast Smart TV, Day revealed she had an informal conversation about joining the cast.

“I did have a conversation about it, but it was very informal, and it would be brilliant, but it would remove my enjoyment of the show as a viewer,” the journalist and host of the podcast How to Fail said.

Day, who is a super fan of The Real Housewives franchise explained why she wouldn’t have been able to be part of the series.

“I don’t think I could cope,” she added. “Well, I’ve already said no, but I couldn’t cope because there’s also a lot of online attention that these housewives get. I don’t know if I’ve got the cojones for it anyway.”

Hammond noted that she would want to be a housewife, but said she wasn’t a wife.

“It doesn’t matter. That’s an ironic term,” Day added, noting that many of the Housewives are not married. “So many of them are these badass businesswomen now.”

The This Morning host said she wanted “to bring the drama” as a housewife. Hammond was so ready to be a housewife she even came up with a tagline, saying it would be, “I love a jewel. And remember guys, I’m a national treasure.”

Day had previously revealed what her tagline might’ve been had she been cast, saying, “I’m named after the late queen, but this queen is always right on time.”

Hayu has not confirmed who they have cast for The Real Housewives of London, but during their announcement last year at Hayu FanFest, they confirmed the first season would premiere in late 2025.
