Elaine Welteroth's 'Perfect Dream Breakfast' Is Bound to Help You Power Through Your Entire Day

Total wellness includes several different components of life, and as we know, physical health and mental health go hand-in-hand. But it's not always easy to balance the two—especially for moms!

Soon-to-be mama of two Elaine Welteroth—who's currently expecting her second baby with husband, Jonathan Singletary—has learned a lot along her motherhood journey about how to take best care of herself amid a busy lifestyle, and when it comes to physical health, nutrition is key.

Between mothering a toddler, building her midwifery care organization birthFUND, and juggling multiple other projects, nourishing the body is one of the ways the More Than Enough author sets herself up for success when she's got a lot on her plate.

And speaking of plate—the 37-year-old is far from a mealtime minimalist. In fact, Welteroth prefers her breakfasts to be stacked (with maximum energy-providing food items, that is). Basically, go big or go home!

During an exclusive interview with Parade—where she discussed her experience curating The Worry-Free Registry sponsored by Johnson's for parents through her partnership with Babylist—the former Project Runway judge shared her go-to breakfast that helps her power through the entire day.

"I am such a breakfast person," she admitted, adding that she always calls her first meal the "breakfast of champions" because she could eat "plates and plates of food."

Describing her "perfect dream breakfast," Welteroth explained in-depth, "I love scrambled eggs; avocado toast—sliced avocado, not mashed—with lots of pepper, with hot sauce and jelly (don't judge me 'til you've tried it). The bread has to be really crispy. I also love a bowl of mixed berries—it's gotta have mango in it; the mango better be juicy... not stiff, not hard."

All this, complimented by a "big, big glass of water" and a green smoothie. "And sometimes, I even have a bowl of oatmeal. So I don't play around," she added, noting that oftentimes due to a hectic schedule, she may not even have time to eat anything else until much later in the day. "My mom always said, you gotta start your day with food that's gonna stick to your bones."

And it's not just breakfast food that the youngest editor-in-chief in Conde Nast history offered expert insight on. The former head of Teen Vogue also shared a piece of advice for moms when it comes to maintaining mental health amid juggling several responsibilities.

"Time-block your days, and do it with grace," the TV host offered. "It can't become another thing that's gonna make you feel bad about yourself if you don't hit the perfect time-blocking, but time-blocking helps you organize your day and how you spend your time with intention," she continued, adding that it's important to be "intentional and deliberate" about how you "allocate your time throughout the day."

"I try to religiously time-block and schedule quality time with my family. It's something that's become a real necessity in becoming a working mom," Welteroth shared.

As for parenting, with a second little one arriving soon, she's got the scoop on what items are truly necessary when preparing to bring a new baby earthside.
