Dua Lipa’s Side-Laced Pants Paid Homage to Christina Aguilera's 'Dirrty' Era
Dua got a little dirrty.
Dua Lipa may be well on her way to becoming a fashion icon (bellybutton-cutout gowns will do that to a star), but her latest outfit had a nod to another pop star. In a clip to promote her upcoming appearance on Saturday Night Live—where she'll be both hosting and performing—Lipa wore a pair of pants that Christina Aguilera would approve of. The video shows Lipa wearing a top with knot details that went down her sternum and torso, leaving swathes of open skin.
She paired the cutout, cap-sleeved shirt with a pair of skinny pants that featured side lacing, something that Xtina championed the entire time she was in her Stripped and "Dirrty" era.
The May 4 episode of SNL marks Lipa's very first time as a host but her third time appearing as the variety show's musical guest. Her new album, Radical Optimism, is set to drop on May 3, so fans have a chance to soak in the new tracks before she performs. Chloe Fineman, who appears in the video with Lipa, does her best to nail the singer's signature disco-inflected delivery but doesn't quite manage—she does, however, slip into a sheer outfit that would 100% get the Dua Lipa seal of approval.

It's not the first time Lipa has paid homage to Aguilera. At the 2021 Grammys, Lipa wore a Versace dress embellished with pastel butterflies, echoing a similar outfit that Aguilera wore when she accepted her Best New Artist Grammy in the year 2000.

Lipa has been riding the Y2K trend hard lately as she promotes Radical Optimism. At the most recent Grammys, Lipa wore a black gown that featured a whale-tail detail. Just last week, the singer was seen carrying a re-edition Gucci bag that was originally on shelves back during Tom Ford's tenure at the storied Italian brand.
