Don’t Let Your Laptop Byte Back

By Mandy Bryan

Maintain Good Posture

Your body should form 90-degree angles at the elbows, knees and hips, and you should be looking straight ahead at the top third of the screen.

Use a Docking Station

Use your laptop on a desk that lifts the screen or links it to another monitor and keyboard.

Choose the Right Chair

Sit in an adjustable chair with back support.

Look After Your Wrists

Ensure that your wrists are in a neutral position, and that both wrists and elbows are supported. Position your arms at a 90-degree angle.

Stay Hydrated

Drink more water to keep your spinal discs well-lubricated.

Stretch Regularly

Take frequent breaks (every 20 minutes or so), shrugging your shoulders and rolling your head from side to side. This enables your muscles to rest in a different position.

Watch for Warning Signs

Watch out for neck and shoulder pain, headaches at the top of your head, wrist pain and tingling fingers. These are signs that you need to take more breaks, adjust your posture or see a doctor.
