‘Doctor Who’ Trailer Teases Killer Cartoons, Interstellar Song Contest & New Companion In Season 2

A new companion has entered the TARDIS as Doctor Who returns for Season 2.

In the first trailer for the sophomore season of the BBC and Disney+’s latest reboot of the sci-fi franchise, Ncuti Gatwa’s The Doctor is joined by Belinda Chandra (Varada Sethu), who aptly notes that she’ll go by ‘The Nurse’ in response to her new pal’s introduction.

“There is something already connecting us,” he tells her as we get a glimpse of Belinda in another time and place, where she’s an intergalactic soldier.

This season follows the pair on an epic quest to get Belinda back to Earth. But a mysterious force is stopping their return and the time-traveling TARDIS team must face great dangers, ferocious enemies and wilder terrors than ever before.

The Doctor teases, “There are forces beyond this universe. We think we are so clever, but we are like children. And when these vast creatures look down on us, our entire reality is in danger.”

One such force is the villainous cartoon Mr. Ring-a-Ding (voiced by Alan Cumming), who is shown breaking out of a movie theater screen to terrorize a 1950s audience.

Meanwhile, The Doctor and Belinda get tickets to the Interstellar Song Contest, an out-of-this-world version of Eurovision, featuring a cameo from the international competition’s commentator Rylan Clark.

Premiering April 12 on BBC and BBC iPlayer in the UK and Disney+ elsewhere, Doctor Who is produced by Bad Wolf with BBC Studios for the BBC and Disney Branded Television.
