Doja Cat, Raye, Lisa of Blackpink at the 2025 OscarsThe 2025 Oscars became a night of medleys. After Wicked stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo kicked off the whole awards show with The Wizard of Oz-themed songs, James Bond got his own musical tribute after the Best Makeup and Hairstyling award was given out.
The Substance actress Margaret Qualley was the first out the gate. After a sizzle reel showing various moments from Bond history, Qualley performed a dance number with a troupe of male dancers all dressed in tuxes. This was immediately followed by Lisa from K-pop girl group Blackpink descending onto the stage from above on wires to perform a rendition of "Live and Let Die," originally recorded by rock band Wings for the 1973 film of the same name, which starred Roger Moore as Agent 007.
Another dance break occurred, this time with Lisa, before Doja Cat came out with her take on "Diamonds Are Forever," John Barry's theme song for 1971's Sean Connery-led entry to the franchise. British singer-songwriter Raye capped the medley off with "Skyfall," the song originally recorded by Adele for the 2012 film starring Daniel Craig.

The medley mirrors the structure of the one performed earlier in the ceremony by Grande and Erivo, who were backed by the Los Angeles Master Chorale. Collectively, the pair performed samples of "Over the Rainbow" from The Wizard of Oz, followed by "Home" from The Wiz, and "Defying Gravity" from Wicked.
Halle Berry, who starred in 2002's Die Another Day, introduced the medley, first by talking about legacy Bond franchise producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson receiving the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award, which was given out previously at the Governors Awards.

"I had the great pleasure of working with Barbara and Michael on Die Another Day. And let me tell you, they don't just produce Bond movies, they were the heart and soul of the franchise for decades," Berry said in her remarks. "Every generation does have their Bond, you know? The world revolves — it evolves, and so does he. But that signature mix of danger, style, and intrigue...well, that's timeless."

This year already marks a major turning point for 007. The Broccoli family served as the franchise's stewards since the beginning, starting with Albert "Cubby" Broccoli of Eon Productions with 1962's Dr. No. Broccoli's daughter, Barbara, and stepson, Wilson, then continued the family business. However, an announcement arrived in February that creative control would pass to Amazon MGM, giving the studio the reins to steer the direction of the franchise and pick the next Bond actor to succeed Craig.
Wilson said he will now "focus on art and charitable projects," while Broccoli said she will dedicate herself to unspecified "other projects."
Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, quickly took to social media shortly after news broke to run an impromptu pole asking, "Who'd you pick as the next Bond?" Mike Hopkins, head of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, also said in a statement, "We are honored to continue this treasured heritage, and look forward to ushering in the next phase of the legendary 007 for audiences around the world."
