Yahoo Lifestyle Disney Fans Hit Back at 'Completely Jarring' Idea for ‘The Simpsons’ Inclusion at Theme Parks
The Simpsons may soon earn a place at Disney-owned parks if a survey issued to guests is anything to go by, but it sounds like fans of the brand see no place for the long-running animated series at the House of Mouse.
According to Disney blog WDWMagic.com, recent visitors to Disney properties were questioned about what franchises they'd like to see more of, with a focus on The Simpsons that included multiple-choice questions that implied the brand is considering introducing meet and greets with characters like Homer, Marge, Bart, and Lisa, as well as ideating potential new attractions or even lands within Disney parks.
While the television show is currently featured in attractions at Universal-owned parks, there is speculation that a licensing agreement, put in place before Disney acquired 21st Century Fox, may be coming to an end soon.
If that happens, it would leave the characters free to be wrapped into the Disney umbrella.
Fans, however, find the mere idea of a Simpsons-themed land "completely jarring," with one X user questioning, "Where would you even put it where it wouldn’t be completely jarring?"
"they definitely don’t belong there," someone else declared, though others felt it would "make sense in Hollywood studios in the animation courtyard."
Another user said they wouldn't "mind too much" if they were introduced as a limited-time "special meet and greet."
"Disney has had bizarre temporary characters before, like the Ninja Turtles at HS in the 90s," they explained. "But if it's permanent? Nah. The Simpsons do not belong at Disney."
