The 'difficulties' Wiggles exes Emma and Lachy are hiding

The past few months have put children’s entertainment group The Wiggles at the forefront of showbiz headlines, but not necessarily for their music.

In August yellow Wiggle Emma Watkins and purple Wiggle Lachlan Gillespie called time on their two-year marriage, but chose to continue working together despite their personal dramas.

Fellow group member Simon Pryce says there’s no doubt Emma and Lachlan have found it “difficult at times” to continue “business as usual”, but they’re doing a great job at hiding it.

Working together after the split

“Emma and Lachy have been incredible, the way they’ve working through it. It must be difficult for them at times personally but you would never know, they’re incredibly professional,” red Wiggle Simon told Yahoo Lifestyle at the 2018 ARIA Awards.

The entertainer explains the couple are “great friends” and tried to keep their personal business separate during a recent overseas tour.

“We’ve done a Canadian tour together, we’ve filmed, recorded. It really is business as usual,” Simon said.

On Wednesday night Emma and Lachlan did not walk the red carpet, despite media being informed the entire Wiggles group would do so.

They later shared snaps sitting inside the ceremony together, a good three months after announcing their split.

Reasons behind the breakup

In September Emma revealed she “fell out of love a little bit” before she and her co-star decided to part ways.

At the time, 28-year-old Emma had been dealing with a number of health concerns which culminated in her needing to undergo surgery for endometriosis.

She told the Gold Coast Bulletin it was a “weird time” for the couple, and they ultimately decided they were better off as friends.

“We are not really cranky at each other, we just realised that our situation had changed,” she said, “probably more from me, than from him.”

Emma called it quits

The yellow Wiggle added that she took the first steps towards the split.

“I wanted to make the decision to separate,” she said. “I am very independent and my mum keeps telling me that no one is going to be able to tell me what to do.”

Emma had been in a lot of pain from endometriosis over the past years and also had a leukaemia scare.

Earlier this year Emma was forced to pull out of the group’s tour because of her battle with endometriosis.

By the time she needed to go in for endometriosis surgery in April this year, she and Lachy were already well into a trial separation.

Lachy had moved out of their shared home in February, and six months later in August, they officially announced they would be splitting.

In a joint statement the pair said they were embracing the “very positive change in [their] relationship”.

“We have chosen a different path to travel in our personal lives,” they said, “but please know that we are stronger than ever and we can’t wait to see you at a show soon.”
