It’s a jolly holiday — er, birthday — for Dick Van Dyke and Chris Martin!

Coldplay has released an extended directors’ cut music video for their new single “All My Love” — and the result is a poignant love letter to Van Dyke and his legendary career as he approaches his 99th birthday on Dec. 13.

The video, which PEOPLE is exclusively premiering, was filmed at Van Dyke’s Malibu home in October, and features the star reflecting on life, aging and love with a little help from Martin, 47, as well as his family.

The seven-minute short film, directed by Spike Jonze and Mary Wigmore, begins with Van Dyke walking to his backyard, where Martin sits waiting at the piano.

“Chris, shall we?” the Mary Poppins star asks, as Martin begins to sing and throwback photos of Van Dyke and mementos from his storied career — including Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and The Dick Van Dyke Show — cycle through.

“I’m acutely aware that I could go any day now. But I don’t know why, it doesn’t concern me,” he says. “I’m not afraid of it. I have that feeling totally against anything intellectual I have that I’m gonna be alright. I think I’m one of those lucky people who got to do for a living what I would’ve done anyway. When you think how lucky I am — I got to do what I do, play and act silly.”

At one point, Van Dyke and Martin sing together, with the former joking he’s “almost on key!” before showing off his he’s-still-got-it dance moves. He goes on to tell Martin that his favorite lyric of the song is the line, “Until I die, let me hold you if you cry.”

“So beautiful,” Van Dyke says.

Before long, Van Dyke is joined by Arlene Silver, his wife of 12 years, as well as his children and grandchildren as he repeats he has a "big family." Together, they laugh, hug and dance (Van Dyke doing so barefoot) before he gives the camera a wink while holding a bouquet of red balloons.

At the video’s end, Van Dyke is asked to name any subject, and Martin is to use the topic as the basis of a song. The star chooses old age, and Martin begins playing on the piano.

“Old age, old age, old age, old age/You turn another page,” he sings. “All the love that I’ve been feeling/All the breakin’, all the healin’/All the things that I wish I’d done are right/All the days that I was dancin’, all the chances I was chancin’/But I’m still legendary Dick Van Dyke.”

The Emmy, Tony and Grammy winner is left awed by the improvised track, as he tells Martin, “I can’t believe it. He just wrote a song!”

Van Dyke and Martin appeared together on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Thursday, Dec. 5 to discuss the making of the video, a shorter version of which will be released on Dec. 13, Van Dyke’s 99th birthday.

On Dec. 12, Coldplay will perform at the Billboard Music Awards for the first time. The band is currently on their Music of the Spheres World Tour, which kicked off in 2022 and has become the most-attended tour by a group, with more than 12 million tickets sold.

“All My Love,” which has a co-writing credit from Martin’s 18-year-old son Moses, is the third and final single off the band’s most recent album, Moon Music.
