Diane Delano, Officer Barbara Semanski on “Northern Exposure”, dies at 67

Diane Delano, a prolific character actress known for roles in Northern Exposure, Popular, PEN15, Days of Our Lives, and many other projects, has died. She was 67.

Her rep Denny Sevier confirmed her death to Entertainment Weekly.

According to Sevier, Delano died at her home in Los Angeles on Dec. 13 after a brief illness. Her official cause of death has yet to be released.

"When Diane entered any room you knew she was there! She was full of life and loved being an actor. She will be missed," Sevier said in a statement to PEOPLE.

Delano was born Jan. 29. 1957 in L.A. She received her first acting credit in a 1983 episode of St. Elsewhere, In 1987, she scored a recurring role as Rhonda Vasek on L.A. Law, then four years later she joined the cast of Northern Exposure as Officer Barbara Semanski, a rugged Alaska state trooper and gun enthusiast, and the on-again/off-again love interest of Maurice Minnifield (Barry Corbin).

The CBS dramedy won several awards including seven Emmys and two Peabodys. Delano's next significant role came in the WB (now The CW) cult series Popular from Ryan Murphy, in which she played Nurse Glass as well as multiple members of the Glass family from 1999 to 2001. In 2001, she also recurred as Bunny Hopstetter on The Ellen Show.

Delano was also an in-demand voiceover actress, with credits including Rugrats, Batman: The Brave and the Bold, Teen Titans, Aaahh!!! Real Monsters, American Dad!, and Ben 10.

In 2013, Delano won an Indie Series Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the TV series Fumbling Through Pieces. She also shared the Best Ensemble Prize at the Los Angeles Film Awards for her work in Relishin 2019.
