A bikini-wearing Aussie influencer has turned heads on social media, but not for the reason you might think.
Jessica Sanders took to Instagram on Australia Day to share a snap of herself sporting a patriotic two-piece swimsuit featuring a red, white and blue design.
Look a little closer, however, and it’s clear that the Union Jack and Southern Cross are nowhere to be seen and the bikini is a homage to the American flag instead.
While the photo appears to have since been deleted, pop culture account Celeb Spellcheck, which has a reputation for calling out celebs and influencers for their online fails, got their hands on it first.
The account reposted Jessica’s photo with the tongue-in-cheek caption, “Party in the USA us,” which sparked a volley of scathing comments from other Instagram users.
“Omg,” one wrote while another added, “Please no.”
Jessica reportedly hit back at claims that she had confused the US and Australian flags, telling a fan who asked if she knew the difference, “I’m not stupid, of course I do.”
After the influx of attention following the Celeb Spellcheck post, she is said to have blocked several users and removed the photos of herself wearing the stars and stripes bikini.
