Deaf Cattle Dog Stages Hilarious Protest to Retrieve Toys After Ankle Injury
If you’ve ever had an injured animal that required rest to heal, you are familiar with the challenge it poses. While it may be easier with older animals, it’s no simple task with those who have youth on their side. This is especially true for intelligent and high-energy breeds like Cattle Dogs, who are programmed to work.
It can be nearly impossible to keep these clever pups from staying active, like this dog, who showed unwavering determination to stay on her feet, even when rest was prescribed. Check out this video from August 23rd to see how she rallied against taking it easy.
A Blue Heeler combines high energy with high intelligence, making it difficult to manage them when they need to recover. Although Cannoli (@pistachiocannoli_) may have experienced an injury to her leg, she’s feeling much better now and doesn’t see the point in resting. Even though her toy bin was emptied to prevent her from overexerting herself, she’s not interested in the excuses. Instead, she brought the empty basket to Mom as if to inquire, “Where are my toys?” LOL! However, per the doctors’ orders, she needs a week of rest before continuing her active lifestyle. While that is no doubt difficult for her, it’s probably even more challenging for her parents.

Ideas to Keep Dogs Busy After an Injury
Although it’s difficult to calm an energetic dog, sometimes we must do what’s in their best interest. Enrichment activities such as puzzle games can help keep them entertained while they recover. Scent games and low-impact training can also help expend some of their pent-up energy and long-lasting bones, and their favorite chews can provide a sense of enjoyment while they rest. Showering them with affection, massages, and divided attention can also help pass the time.
Parents were familiar with this scenario. Viewer @martiniquesedillo shared, “My Heeler mix got super sick. She was so ill she didn’t want her ball. So we took them so she could get rest. However, she took her balls from her favorite hiding spots when she got a little better.” Ha! Cannoli might also consider hiding a few after this. Viewer @artwork_by_ak remarked, “They’re nothing if not resourceful.” That’s the truth! Viewer @eat_nrs_lv reported, “My heeler had knee surgery, and I had to put her in a crate. Then broke out of the crate!” That’s not surprising with these spirited dogs.
For a breed conditioned to work all day, it’s easy to understand why they are unfamiliar with rest. That’s why having a Heeler is not for the faint of heart.
