Netflix has released the first trailer for Dead Boy Detectives, based on the characters created by Neil Gaiman for DC Comics. The upcoming show will star George Rexstrew and Jayden Revri as Edwin Payne and Charles Rowland as independent detectives cracking supernatural mysteries while cheating death itself.

The show is a part of The Sandman universe on Netflix, which was kicked off by the first season of that show in 2022. As such, expect direct connections to The Sandman and the Endless, with one you can spot in the trailer. Kirby Howell-Baptiste, who played Death in the original show, appears in one shot in the trailer and is expected to have a significant role in the series. Watch the trailer below:

Here is the official description of the series:

Edwin and Charles are best friends, ghosts… and the best detectives on the Mortal plane. They will do anything to stick together – including escaping evil witches, Hell and Death herself. With the help of a clairvoyant named Crystal and her friend Niko, they are able to crack some of the mortal realm’s most mystifying paranormal cases.

Unlike other DC projects in and outside the DCU, Neil Gaiman’s Sandman universe is not produced directly by DC Studios. Dead Boy Detectives first debuted in The Sandman #25. A different iteration of the characters previously appeared in the DC show Doom Patrol in its third season.

Following the release of Dead Boy Detectives, Netflix is expected to reveal more information about The Sandman season 2. “A journey is beginning that will take us from Destiny’s garden to Hell, from the Heart of the Dreaming to Ancient Greece and revolutionary France, and from there to places even I cannot quite imagine on the screen,” said Gaiman upon the announcement of the show’s second season.
