David Arquette Slashes “Scream 7” Cameo Hopes: 'I Haven't Gotten Any Calls'

"I guess there's a chance, but I haven't gotten any calls or anything," Arquette said on 'Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen'

It's not looking likely that Dewey Riley will be making an appearance in the next Scream movie.

David Arquette seemingly shot down any hopes of his fan-favorite character returning to the franchise in the upcoming Scream 7, after a fan called in to Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen to ask about potentially seeing the late Dewey "in some form," like a flashback sequence.

"I don't think so — I mean, I don't know!" said Arquette, 52, with a laugh, during an appearance on the show on Sunday, July 21.

Added the actor, "I guess there's a chance, but I haven't gotten any calls or anything."

He also denied that returning star Neve Campbell had "spilled any tea" to him about the upcoming movie, in which Campbell, 50, once again reprises her iconic final-girl role of Sidney Prescott.

Following the success of Scream VI, which scored the biggest opening weekend box office for the entire franchise when it was released in March 2023, a seventh film was announced that August.

In April 2023, Arquette told Variety that he had seen the latest installment in the slasher franchise, even after his character Dewey was killed off in 2022's entry Scream.

"It was hard for me to do it, but I also knew I wanted to see it," Arquette told the outlet of his feelings on seeing the sequel. "I loved it."

"It was sad. I had lots of FOMO," he added.

Arquette previously costarred in the first five Scream films along with series staples Campbell and Courteney Cox, forming a trio of heroes who are continually hunted down by — and subsequently thwart — serial killers who take on the Ghostface persona.

Arquette was not the only franchise original who did not participate in Scream VI. Though Campbell's character Sidney survived 2022's Scream, the actress announced later that year that she had decided to step away from her final-girl role for the latest entry.

In a June 2022 statement, Campbell said in part, "I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise."

In March, Campbell announced she would be reprising her role as Sidney Prescott for the new movie, following the exits of newer franchise stars Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega.

"I've lived with Sidney for 30 years, and I'm really, really grateful to get to go back to it," Campbell told PEOPLE in May of rejoining the horror franchise for its upcoming seventh film.

She added, “I'm really excited that [screenwriter] Kevin Williamson is going to direct. I think he's been wanting to do it for years and he deserves it. This is his baby. He's going to do a phenomenal job."
