Yahoo Lifestyle Dave and Jenny Marrs Reveal Juicy Details About Turning Down 'Fixer to Fabulous' Pilot
Fixer to Fabulous is a hit among HGTV viewers, currently airing its sixth season. But in a recent interview with cohosts Jenny and Dave Marrs, the couple shared that the show almost didn't happen. During a recent breakfast with the men's club at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Bella Vista, Arkansas, the Marrs shared stories from some behind-the-scenes moments of the show.
The Arkansas couple shared that they turned down an invitation from producers not once, but three times, when they were originally approached to film a pilot for the home renovation show. At the time, the Marrs were parents to three children and were concerned that filming would take too much time away from their family. At the time, they had just three children: twin boys Nathan and Ben, along with their daughter Sylvie, who they adopted in 2013 from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Ultimately, the Marrs decided that filming a pilot could help bring awareness to their adoption journey and help them fundraise for families in the Democratic Republic of Congo. They didn't expect the pilot to go anywhere, especially considering that HGTV films about 70 to 80 pilots a year and chooses 10 to 20. But now, the Marrs have filmed over 100 episodes of their Emmy-nominated show.
“We didn’t think we’d be doing it this long,” Dave Marrs said. “We feel like it’s a ministry. We feel like when we’re not supposed to do the show anymore, God will say ‘I’m closing this door and opening another one.'”
Now a family of seven, along with their farm filled with donkeys, goats, sheep, and more, the Marrs are still filming Fixer to Fabulous and even have a spin-off series, Fixer to Fabulous: Welcome Inn. If it sounds like the couple has plenty to keep their hands full, they do. The Marrs also shared that each 43-minute episode is created with about 120 hours of film time.
“It’s pretty crazy,” Jenny Marrs told the audience. “It’s mass chaos. It’s nonstop during filming season.”
