Dave Grohl announces he fathered a child outside his marriage: 'I love my wife and children'
He's got another confession to make.
There goes my hero.
Foo Fighters frontman and former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl has announced he fathered a child outside of his marriage. In a Sept. 10 Instagram post, Grohl wrote, "I've recently become the father of a new baby daughter, born outside my marriage."
He continued to explain that the extramarital affair and child haven't shaken his commitment to his wife, Jordyn Blum, and their three daughters together. "I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness." He also indicated he'd be a present force in his new daughter's life as well: "I plan to be a loving and supportive parent to her."
Reps for Grohl had nothing to add when reached for comment by Entertainment Weekly.
The post was a rare one from Grohl, whose social media presence is limited to Instagram. That account was only launched in 2020 and contains 22 total posts, 20 of them relating to the memoir The Storyteller Grohl released in 2023. He does frequently appear in photos posted to the Foo Fighters Instagram account.
Grohl's wife of over 20 years, Jordyn Blum, is a former model and MTV producer. Blum keeps out of the spotlight even more than Grohl, but has collaborated on several Foo Fighters projects, including appearing in the 2011 music video for the song "White Limo" and co-directing the 2002 music video for the song "Walking a Line."
Grohl has publicly identified his wife as the inspiration behind several Foo Fighters songs before, though not always positively. In a 2006 interview with The AV Club, Grohl named the 2002 song "Burn Away" as one that makes him "cringe" now, explaining, "I was in love with my future wife and had some romantic f---ing prom ballad. Ugh! We'd never play that f---ing sh-- live."

Grohl and Blum have three children together, Violet Maye (born 2006), Harper Willow (born 2009), and Ophelia Saint (born 2014). Violet, now 18, is a musician in her own right, occasionally joining her father on stage during Foo Fighters gigs, as she did during their 2023 Glastonbury set.

Grohl has recently engaged in highly public disagreements with two of the most famous people in the world - Taylor Swift and Donald Trump. He incurred the wrath of the Swifties after insinuating during a June concert that her Eras Tour band doesn't perform live. Trump and the Foo Fighters meanwhile have been going back and forth about whether the former president's campaign had authorization to use the song "My Hero" at a recent rally.
