Daredevil: Born Again is considered a rarity amongst the current slate of MCU shows on Disney+, and not just for being a revival of a long-deceased Marvel series. Along with Loki and the animated What If...?, the revival vehicle for Charlie Cox's Matt Murdock and Vincent D'Onofrio's Wilson Fisk is one of the few serialized titles to get more than one season. As season 1 is set to premiere two episodes on the streaming platform this March 4, a second one will begin filming within days of the debut.

As part of an exclusive sneak peek at Daredevil: Born Again, showrunner Dario Scardapane tells Entertainment Weekly he sees the two seasons as telling one continuous story. "We've got some new stuff going on," he says. "This season is really kind of Part 2 of season 1, so it allows us to go into bigger and different places."

Daredevil: Born Again's freshman run will pick up some time after the events of the original Daredevil, which starred Cox and D'Onofrio and ran for three seasons on Netflix from 2015-2018. Cox's Matt is focused on being a lawyer rather than the street vigilante known as Daredevil, after a certain unspecified line was crossed one year prior. D'Onofrio's Fisk, similarly, is focused on a mayoral run in New York City rather than his criminal enterprises. Though, with the man known as Kingpin, his political aspirations are likely just an extension of those shady dealings. But with the vacuum left by their absence come figures looking to fill the void.

The first season will also feature Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page and Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, Matt's two closest friends and business partners; Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/Punisher; Ayelet Zurer as Fisk's wife, Vanessa; and Wilson Bethel as Benjamin Poindexter/Bullseye — all reprising their roles from the Netflix original.

Brad Winderbaum, the head of Marvel TV, confirms to EW, "100 percent it's a multi-season show. I don't know how many seasons it'll run.

"This is really a question about Marvel television in general," he continues, "but I think it's very important that we make shows that last for multiple seasons, that come out on an annual cadence, that people can rely on, that feel like holidays and an event when a new season comes out. Our first wave of shows — and there's some great ones in there — had a very limited series motif, which made them feel like longform movies that had to stack up against the theatrical films and tie in in a significant way. My vision is to get back to more of a comfort viewing, reliable, invest-in-the-characters-over-a-long-period-of-time, traditional style of television storytelling. I hope that over the next few years we see the fruits of that."

As for what Daredevil: Born Again season 2 will entail exactly, we have to get through season 1 first. However, Scardapane teases that the new villain Muse will cause "a ripple effect that extends beyond" season 1.

A few other elements are on the creators' minds. Sana Amanat, an executive producer, says Elektra (played on the OG Daredevil by Elodie Yung) and ninja clan the Hand are "in the back of our heads" for Daredevil: Born Again. "Eventually we’ll try to figure out a bit more with that," she teases.

Winderbaum has also been thinking about what to do with the other street-level "Defenders" of Hell's Kitchen besides Daredevil. There's Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones, Mike Colter as Luke Cage, and Finn Jones as Iron Fist/Danny Rand, who all headlined their own Marvel shows alongside Cox from that earlier Netflix era. "I can't say much," Winderbaum says, but notes, "It is certainly something that is creatively extremely exciting and that we are very much exploring."
