Danish palace at 'crisis point' over royal feud between the princesses

A royal feud is said to be bubbling in the Danish royal family, causing absolute mayhem in the palace.

Aussie sweetheart Crown Princess Mary and her sister-in-law, Princess Marie, are reportedly at loggerheads over who will take over the throne from Queen Margrethe.

Princess Marie is the 42-year-old wife of Prince Joachim of Denmark, who is Prince Frederik’s younger brother.

And while Frederik and Mary are the rightful heirs to the throne, it’s been claimed that Princess Marie is doing everything she can make sure they never rule over her and Prince Joachim.

“There is a serious war behind palace walls in the Danish monarchy and it’s got to the stage where the whole royal family is at crisis point,” a royal insider told New Idea.

“Marie knows full well that when Queen Margrethe steps down, then Princess Mary will become queen – and that makes her blood boil”.

Indeed, it had been speculated that Queen Margrethe would step down this year, after the tragic death of her husband, Prince Henrik, and her own health suffering recently.

However, there has been no sign of that happening but Princess Mary has been stepping up her royal duties lately.

“It’s no secret behind palace walls that Marie is jealous of Mary and does whatever she can to make her life hell, but she’s really upped the ante since talk of Queen Margrethe abdicating stepped up,” the source said.

According to Marie Claire, Princess Marie and Prince Joachim met when he was still married to his first wife, Countess Alexandra.

However, their romance didn’t actually begin until after he had divorced his wife, back in 2003.

The couple were married in 2008 and now have four adorable kids together.
