Couple infuriate neighbours with home birth on shared rooftop

An expectant mum has angered her neighbours after ‘booking’ her shared rooftop for her home birth.

One of the disgruntled residents of the Queensland apartment block shared a photo of a note posted in their lift, notifying them to the unusual reservation.

“I’m about five seconds from flipping a desk and writing an angry email to our building manager,” she wrote. “Am I over-reacting?”

Shared space invasion

She went on to describe that they had a “communal rooftop” area where residents can barbecue and hang out — and this was the space she wanted to use during her labour.

“You can’t ‘book’ it as such but most people will leave notes in the lift and let the building manager know if they are using the space for a party,” she went on. “But I think this is ridiculous.”

Social media users agreed, leaving heaps of messages of support, according the Daily Mail.

Ridiculous request

“This is ridiculous! But also I would not be surprised if your very entitled neighbour is dead set on having a home birth on a communal rooftop.”

Others thought the whole think was a “prank” as who could “possibly know” when they would go into labour.

“I think someone is having you on, to be honest. Unless she’s being induced there’s no way to predict a natural birth to that degree,” someone said.

Promise to clean up

The note, which had stated the date and time, also included some rather hilarious comments about their intended clean up.

“We will do our best to keep the noise levels down and will of course clean up after ourselves,” it stated.

While the birth was scheduled for Saturday 10th November, it is not clear if it went ahead.
