One of the best ways to help your can of beans taste extra special is to drain them of all, or at least some, of their liquid before you begin to cook. Just let them sit in a colander for a while before you begin cooking and layering flavors.

How To Make Copycat Texas Roadhouse Green Beans
This is an overview with step-by-step photos. Full ingredients & instructions are in the recipe card below.
1. Drain green beans in a colander for about 20 minutes.
1. Sauté your chopped bacon over medium-high heat until it is crisp-tender and releases its fat.
2. Remove the bacon and let it drain on a paper towel-lined plate while you sauté the onions and garlic. You want the bacon flavor, and some of the fat, but we don't need the extra grease.
3. Once the onions have started to soften a little, add the chicken broth to deglaze the pan. Remember, those brown bits on the bottom are full of flavor! Add the green beans, sugar, butter, salt and pepper. Cover and simmer for about 10 minutes.
4. After 10 minutes, stir well and serve immediately, or lower heat to warm and keep covered until ready.
Best Tips
Allow the beans to drain well before cooking.
Cut-style green beans work better than French cut.
When adding the chicken broth, be sure to scrape the bottom of the pot to get all that flavor.
Ham could be substituted for bacon. You might need a little extra oil to sauté the onion.
A large Dutch oven with a tight-fitting lid works perfectly, but a stockpot could be used instead.
I would not use margarine instead of butter.
