Leray and Redd were first linked in 2019 when both were starting their careers as musicians. The "Players" rapper was photographed backstage at Redd's show at Irving Plaza in New York City in February 2019, and the two made a number of joint appearances in the months that followed, including Leray's performance on HOT 97's Who's Next that April.

Though Redd described the beginning of their romance as "love at first sight" in his 2019 song "Leray," the relationship quickly fizzled, with their last public appearance occurring in the summer of 2019.

After their breakup, Redd wrote "Leray" about the fall out of their relationship, writing that it was "misery after two months." In one of the verses, he seemingly dissed Leray, rapping, "When you got with me, you were a genius/Now without me you have to live life as an idiot."

The "TWINNEM" rapper responded to the diss during an interview on the No Jumper podcast in August 2020, sharing that while she didn't mind him using their relationship to inform his music, she didn't appreciate how he put her "down."

“At first, no, I didn’t like it. It was very like, what the f---, because I always thought we really had something outside of the music,” she said. “So I’m just like, damn. If you got something to say, let’s get together and you say that s--- to my face … I felt like I’m being used for clickbait."

She added that she felt he could have "just called" and gotten the message to her differently, explaining they were "very connected."

When asked why she thought the relationship ended, Leray admitted that the two were young when they started dating — he was 19, and she was 21 — and that as an "upcoming female artist," she had "a lot going on."

"I just feel like it was not the right time for us, but I always felt like we were made for each other," she said. "I just felt the timing wasn't right."

Four years after sharing that she hoped "one day" they might rekindle, Leray wrote on X, “Sleeping on FaceTime, waking up on FaceTime."
