The Clever Trick for Making a Costco Apple Pie 10x Better

I got my Costco membership last year, and honestly, it was TikTok’s fault. Seeing those massive desserts go viral was the push I needed to sign up for the warehouse store.

Costco fans line up for the store's iconic desserts: cheesecakes, the seasonal pumpkin pie, chocolate-covered strawberries and more. Costco desserts aren't just big—they’re legendary. The oversized portions make them perfect for parties or just indulging over a few days (or weeks, if you’re good at self-control). Their famous Tuxedo Chocolate Mousse Cake? A showstopper at any gathering. And that Kirkland Signature carrot cake? Unbelievably moist with the perfect cream cheese frosting.

But let’s talk about apple pie—my favorite. Costco’s version is everything: giant, flaky, buttery crust and tender apples with the right balance of sweetness and cinnamon. Plus, like all Costco desserts, it’s big enough to feed a crowd or keep your sweet tooth satisfied for days.

Content creator Maggie Perkins (@itsmaggieperkins) shared a way to make this beloved pie even better (if you can believe that!). I can't wait to give this smart trick a try.

What Is a Twice-Baked Costco Apple Pie?

"Secrets out. If you’ve ever enjoyed my Twice Baked Apple pie, it’s a scam. My signature dish is actually just a Costco apple pie, smashed up and baked again with a crumble streusel topping," Maggie wrote in her Instagram caption.

It's so refreshing to hear a creator admit to "cheating" by buying a store-bought dessert, and we can't wait to give this hack a try!

"It’s amazing, and you can also scam your loved ones," Maggie said, adding that she worked in the Costco bakery and fully understands "the potential of these ingredients and I absolutely knew what I was up to when I started passing off this twice baked treasure as my own creation."

She also said she's still a Costco employee and enjoys sharing all the things she loves about the retailer. We love that, too!

How to Make a Twice-Baked Costco Apple Pie

Streusel is a crumbly topping made from a mix of butter, sugar and flour, often with cinnamon or nuts for added flavor. It bakes into a golden, crunchy layer that contrasts perfectly with soft, juicy fruit fillings. On apple pie, it’s pure magic—adding a sweet, buttery crunch that elevates every bite. I love how the streusel soaks up some of the apple juices while staying crisp, making the pie even more irresistible.

Maggie says to completely smash your Costco pie (or your favorite brand of store-bought pie), even the sides of the crust that hold the pie's shape together. Then, scoop it into a baking dish and top it with a streusel. Bake it until it's bubbly and wait for the compliments to roll in.

We love this idea because it makes making a special dessert so much easier. We're excited to try it with Costco apple pie and also think that cherry or blueberry pie would make a fun twice-baked pie base.
