Chrissy Teigen's 'vile' tweets to 17-year-old bride exposed
Chrissy Teigen has been plunged into controversy after model and media personality Courtney Stodden blasted the star for what she describes as a bullying campaign waged online eight years ago.
Courtney Stodden famously wed actor Doug Hutchinson when she was just 16 years old in 2011. At 51, he was 35 years her senior.
The pair have since divorced, with Courtney now describing the union as manipulative and saying it was tantamount to ‘grooming’.
The controversial match was the subject of much mockery at the time, and now the model has released a YouTube video in which she claims Chrissy Teigen and others were guilty of vicious bullying at the time.
“This video is calling out Chrissy Teigen,” Courtney says. “She stalked me, she harassed me, she bullied me and keep in mind I was a minor.”
“I was 16 and 17 during her period of bullying me and hating on me.”
It’s not just her word against Chrissy’s either – the tweets in question are still online and they are just as shocking as the former teen bride suggests.
Tweets prove ‘vile’ messages
Chrissy, then a Sports Illustrated cover model who was 26 years old at the time, fired off a series of tweets to Courtney back in 2011 and 2012.
In them, she taunts the teenager over her facial expressions and even asks her to ‘go to sleep forever’ and take a ‘dirt nap [die]’.
‘Abusive marriage’ ridiculed by celebrities
Courtney, now 25, describes her married life as ‘abusive’, an experience she says wasn’t helped by the very public ridicule she was copping at the time.
“There was a time in my life when I was 16 and 17 years old, being abused by an alcoholic almost every single night. On top of that, I had so-called celebrities slut-shaming and bullying me,” she said.
She clarified that the inside workings of her marriage were not public knowledge at the time.
“I’m not trying to say [Chrissy] knew what was happening, but when there is a 16-year-old married to a 50-year-old, and you have a celebrity with a platform like Chrissy’s bullying you, it sticks with you,” she said.
Chrissy’s tweets are a mix of unprompted messages to the bride, and responses to her often strange and nonsensical social media posts at the time.
Chrissy Teigen fans respond to tweets
Fans have since returned to the former posts from Chrissy to express their horror, though others continue to staunchly defend the star.
“Wow, Chrissy no,” one woman wrote on Chrissy’s ‘dirt nap’ proposition. “Was a fan until now.”
“The reason I am now unfollowing you,” another wrote, blasting a message of hate as ‘vile’.
Others defended Chrissy.,
“This was 9 - 10 years ago … let’s live in the present,” one wrote.
“Looking for old tweets from like 9 years ago? Really?” another wrote.
At time of publication, Chrissy has not responded to the video or to Yahoo Lifestyle’s request for comment.
