Patrick Schwarzenegger reveals that his engagement to Abby Champion almost went off script thanks to his brother-in-law Chris Pratt.

The The White Lotus star, 31, revealed on the latest episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show that the Guardians of the Galaxy actor, 45, had helped set up the surprise proposal on the beach by laying out "all these roses and all these flowers" — but didn't anticipate the couple arriving so early.

"And then right when we walked down, he jumped up with the umbrella and ran away," Schwarzenegger recalled. "And there was this beautiful flower arrangement and that’s where I proposed."

Guest host Molly Sims then asked if his well-meaning brother-in-law happened to "give it away" with his appearance. "No, not until the last second," Schwarzenegger responded. "She was like, 'Is that Chris?' And I was like, 'Yep.' "

The actor noted that father Arnold Schwarzenegger, mother Maria Shriver, his sister and Pratt's wife Katherine Schwarzenegger Pratt and the rest of his family — as well as Champion's — were "all hiding in the lifeguard station down at the beach." He noted that he had thought up the beach proposal in order to be "unique."

"We’d been together for so long that I wanted to find some way that was gonna be kind of unique and still, you know, surprise her and so we go on a little morning sunrise walk at 6 a.m. down to the beach and that's when I did it," he shared. "She was in her pajama pants or her sweatpants. She had no makeup on."

He said he got doubly blessed that week as his engagement took place the "same week" he booked a role on The White Lotus. Though that delayed wedding plans for a bit because he had to head to Thailand to shoot the TV Show.

"So I was like, 'I’m so sorry but I am moving to Thailand for the next seven months, and we’re gonna have to push the wedding,' " Schwarzenegger recalled telling his fiancée.

The couple shared the happy news via a joint Instagram post in December 2023, alongside several romantic photos of the pair sharing some PDA on the beach. "💍❤️FOREVER AND EVER ❤️💍," they captioned the photos.

One image showed Schwarzenegger planting a kiss on his fiancée's cheek as she showed off her sparkly double-diamond engagement ring. Other photos captured the pair kissing and embracing in the sand by a heart-shaped arrangement of red roses. They also shared a glimpse of a celebratory cake decorated with a photo of them.

Schwarzenegger and Champion, 28, were first romantically linked in September 2015, before making their relationship Instagram official in February 2016. At the time, the model posted a photo of the pair posing with their arms around each other.

Since then, they have shared small glimpses into their love story on social media. On Champion's 25th birthday in 2022, Schwarzenegger declared on Instagram, "I love this girl so much," alongside a carousel of photos of the pair together.

He also opened up to E! News in 2019 about how the couple keeps their relationship strong despite having to spend a lot of time apart due to their work commitments.

"We love each other and it's okay when she goes away for a week or I go away for a month filming," Schwarzenegger told the outlet in November 2022. "We're moving and I feel very fortunate to be able to be together and live together."
