Chris Hemsworth barely recognisable in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga: 'Ugly'

"Chris Hemsworth looks like a different person."

Chris Hemsworth is barely recognisable in the first look at his character Dementus in the new George Miller film Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.

The film, which is a prequel to 2014's Fury Road, stars Anya Taylor Joy in the title role, which was previously played by Charlize Theron.

Fans were left shocked when Chris shared the trailer on Instagram, given the handsome Aussie star looked entirely different. The Thor actor appears to have a prosthetic nose in the film and sports long hair and a long beard to go with it. He also wears a red cape at one point, similar to his costume from Thor.

Many people took to the Instagram comments to share their surprise, with one user writing, "Barely recognised you!"

"I did not even recognize, Chris!" another agreed.

"I almost didn't recognise you, can't wait," a third said.

"I kept waiting for Hemsworth to show up - what a great role! Excited!" someone else added.

"Holy s**t. That looks epic. Can barely recognise you," yet another said.

"Chris Hemsworth is looking more like THOR in this one than in the original Thor movies," one Twitter user wrote.

"Chris Hemsworth looks like a different person in #Furiosa," another said.

"Why did they put Tom Cruise's nose on Chris Hemsworth?" a third added of his prosthetic nose.

"I am all in for Chris Hemsworth’s 'ugly character actor' era," someone else quipped.

Others referenced Thor, with one user writing, "Your shirt isn’t off [I don't know] if I can watch this movie, man."

"Looks like Chris can't live without cape anymore, he always want a cape in every movie," another said.

"A sleazy Thor with a gun as the villain," a third said.

"Take my money," one fan simply added.

Chris previously revealed on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that he was initially "scared out of his mind" of his character.

"In the buildup, and I'm talking a couple years, I was scared out of my mind. I'm like, 'I'm gonna derail one of the most iconic franchises.' I'm gonna bring down Mad Max. It's gonna be my fault," he said.

"Often I get a script and I know from the first read, the second read, I know who the character is and I get an instant, sort of, visceral feeling attached to it," Chris added. "This I had read two years before I started shooting and was in awe of the script. It was the most beautiful thing I've read. I love George Miller — but I didn't know who this character was."

Thankfully, he revealed that "something clicked" two weeks before he began shooting.
