With the words above, Jesus (played by Jonathan Roumie) addresses his disciples at what would be known as the Last Supper. He will go on to foretell that one of the gathered (SPOILER ALERT: Judas!) will betray him, and then lead his disciples in the first communion.
As you can see, they’re going with a far more practical “U-shaped” table arrangement where people can actually see and talk to one another, whereas Da Vinci wanted us to think it was a White House Correspondents Dinner set-up.
The trailer above also shows Jesus fashioning and then brandishing the whip he will use to cause a ruckus at a market place set up outside the Temple of Jerusalem (aka The Cleansing of the Temple).
“The table is set,” reads a synopsis for the trailer. “The people of Israel welcome Jesus as king while his disciples anticipate his crowning. But — instead of confronting Rome — he turns the tables on his own religious festival. Their power threatened, the country’s religious and political leaders will go to any length to ensure this Passover meal is Jesus’ last.”
The Chosen creator Dallas Jenkins told USA Today that the eight-episode Season 5 covers the days leading up to Jesus’ crucifixion, with the finale taking place before Jesus’ arrest. Then, in Season 6 (of his planned seven), “we’ll give you the full gamut of his arrest and what happens over those next 24 hours,” Jenkins shared.
WHEN AND WHERE CAN YOU WATCH THE CHOSEN SEASON 5?
The Chosen: Last Supper (as Season 5 is titled) will, as Season 4 did, first land in theaters — during Lent beginning Thursday, March 27, and spanning four weeks of screenings.
Per USA Today, the entire season will then be available to stream “later in 2025.” Season 4 made its way to Prime Video, Peacock and The Chosen app, and eventually aired on The CW this past September.
