Chloe Fineman DMed This “Saturday Night Live” Alum During Her First Year on the Show (Exclusive)
The comedian got "amazing" advice from Molly Shannon when she joined the variety sketch show in 2019
Chloe Fineman recalls the "amazing" mentoring she got from a Saturday Night Live icon.
The Megalopolis actor, 36, exclusively tells PEOPLE during a conversation about her partnership with Instacart that she got advice from fellow comedian Molly Shannon when she joined the show in 2019.
"Molly Shannon, my first year, was kind enough to let me DM her and she would somehow DM me back," she says. "And was really mentoring in an amazing way. And obviously one of the funniest women alive."
Shannon, 60, was part of SNL from 1995 to 2001 and perhaps, became best known for her character Mary Katherine Gallagher, which got a spin-off movie, Superstar, in 1999. She was nominated for an Emmy in 2000 for outstanding individual performance in a variety or music program.

Fineman also explains the mentality Shannon had about the show each season. "Her thing is like, it's a whole season and I think when you're in it, you go by a week, each week is like a roller coaster," she says.
"It's like, you have the best and then you have the worst week, but you have to step out and as long as you have a good full season, you're great," she adds.
She also shared what she's enjoyed the most so far during this SNL season, which marks the 50th for the show. "Getting to work with people you really admire is always the most exciting," she says, "especially when they wanna do stuff" mentioning Dana Carvey dressed as Jennifer Coolidge or dancing with Kristen Wiig in the Maison Du Bang sketch.
In addition to SNL, Fineman partnered with Instacart for their holiday campaign Yule Be Fine, where the comedian brings much-needed encouragement to first-time hosts.
Between preparing dinner menus and managing family members, Fineman reminds everyone to take a deep breath and that we're all getting through the holidays together and is offering. Plus, the campaign's catchphrase offers a clever play-on-words for Fineman's last name.
"I'm a chronically stressed-out person. I live in New York and I'm stressed out for the holidays," she tells PEOPLE. "But it is that thing, the whole you go to the grocery store, the thing sold out you're cooking, you forgot something, I burned stuff, all the amount of things I've burned over the holidays. You have no idea."
