Yahoo Lifestyle Chicago Fire Takes a Life Ahead of Mini-Hiatus — Plus, Is [Spoiler] Returning to Firehouse 51?

The promo for this week’s Chicago Fire touted that someone wouldn’t make it out alive, and, indeed, a member of Firehouse 51 lost someone close to them.

Going into the episode — which is the last new one until March 26 — it seemed like the Grim Reaper might be targeting Severide’s half-brother Damon, who not only got trapped inside a burning building, but was also ganged up on by his fellow firefighters at Firehouse 20. However, the victim turned out to be Chief Pascal’s wife Monica (recurring guest star KaDee Strickland), who got into a deadly car accident on her way to her anniversary dinner with her husband. Mouch was the one who delivered the call to Pascal, urging him to get to Med, where Violet tearfully shook her head as Pascal approached. The new was confirmed by Dr. Archer, then Pascal took Monica’s hand and broke down next to her lifeless body.
Now, back to Damon because things have taken an interesting turn for the rookie. During a rescue call, his fellow firefighter Jenner abandoned him, not wanting to risk his life. Jenner lied about what happened to their lieutenant, and Damon promised to keep the truth between them, but Jenner still threatened to blackball Damon if he ever used that call against him.
Severide advised Damon to keep his head down and wait for Jenner to mess up in some other way. But when Damon’s lieutenant confronted him directly about the discrepancies in their stories, he had no choice but to tell the truth. He remembered the lesson he learned when he lied to Stella, and he didn’t want a repeat of that. Jenner, meanwhile, retaliated by threatening Damon at Molly’s and getting the rest of the firehouse to go against him, making staying at 20 difficult for Damon. Severide and Stella brainstormed what to do, knocking down the idea that Damon move to another firehouse. It would be his third one in a year, which would raise flags. Then Stella suggested they bring Damon back to 51. He’s a more mature, different firefighter now, and if anyone can convince Pascal to go with the idea, it’s Severide, she argued.
Elsewhere in the episode:
— After a home inspection and a Zoom interview that almost went sideways, thanks to Herrmann and Cruz, Stella and Severide were approved to be adoptive parents.
— Pascal urged Mouch to put his name in for a position that was opening up at another firehouse. Mouch met with the chief there, but told Pascal that he wasn’t going anywhere, especially with Herrmann taking the chief test in a couple months. But Pascal doesn’t think that Herrmann wants to be chief, even if he hasn’t realized it himself yet. Mouch doesn’t believe that about Herrmann and insisted again that he’s not leaving 51.
— Novak was really feeling Damon’s big hero energy and invited him to Molly’s. Now that they’re not working at the same firehouse, why not have some fun, she reasoned. (No one tell her about Severide and Stella’s plan just yet.)
— Violet had a realization about Sam, who’s in rehab: “I really miss Carver. Like, more than I thought I could.” About time!
