Chicago Fire: Boden Returns to Investigate ‘Every Firefighter’s Worst Nightmare’ — Watch Promo

Chicago Fire vet Eamonn Walker is back as Deputy Commissioner Wallace Boden, and he just wants to know the truth in a promo for the NBC drama’s next new episode (airing Wednesday, April 16 at 9/8c).

In the hour, Boden is tasked by Commissioner Grissom (played by Gary Cole) to run a post-incident analysis following a house fire that collapsed with a firefighter inside.

“Last night was every firefighter’s worst nightmare,” Boden declares in the above video as Severide, Stella and Chief Pascal look on in concern.

As images of the house fire play in reverse, Boden adds, “I need to know exactly what went wrong. All I’m after is the truth.”

“We’re so excited to have our beloved Chief Boden back, and the episode, titled ‘Post-Mortem,’ is a thrill ride unlike any we’ve done before,” showrunner Andrea Newman previously said in a statement. “Told with flashbacks and unique POVs, Chief Boden leads our team on a search to discover the how, who, and why of a fierce firefight that ended in disaster.”

Newman described the hour to TVLine as “a fantastic episode that will showcase our beloved Boden.”

An original cast member on the NBC drama, Walker exited the series in the Season 12 finale as Boden said an emotional goodbye to the Firehouse 51 crew and moved on to become Deputy Commissioner. Before he left, Boden told Herrmann (David Eigenberg) that he wants him to eventually take over as 51’s chief. In the meantime, Chief Dom Pascal (new series regular Dermot Mulroney) has been filling the role.
