'Heartbroken' Chelsie McLeod speaks out about split with Bachelor Matt Agnew
Heartbroken Bachelor winner Chelsie McLeod has described her split with Matt Agnew as ‘rough’ in an emotional ‘ask me anything’ she shared to her Instagram stories on Wednesday night.
The chemical engineer began by saying she doesn’t deal with heartbreak well and confirming, ‘my heart is broken’.
She also implied the breakup wasn’t mutual, and said that things went downhill after they taped the finale in South Africa.
“It's definitely been rough,” she said, “Heartbreak sucks.”
“I'm going to respect Matt's privacy and not go into details, there isn't any anyway, nothing bad happened.”
“It's a hard situation, and it just takes two strong people with a really strong connection to get through filming and... the end.”
That said, Chelsie doesn’t regret going on The Bachelor in the first place and is doing her best to heal and move on.
Cheating rumours swirl
Chelsie may have spoken out after people started speculating that the split was far from the amicable one fans were initially led to believe.
Unconfirmed rumours began to swirl after Chelsie commented on a post shared by fellow Bachelor star Jessica Brody at the end of last month.
Jessica had shared two photos of herself holding a rose, writing, “Me vs. Me when he tells me I’m the only girl he’s talking to,” with the second photo showing her head thrown back in laughter.
Underneath, Chelsie commented, ‘Triggereddddd’, before adding, “Triggered is an understatement [to be frank].”
Another Bachelor slams Matt
Weighing in on the saga, former Bachelor Matty J – who gave Matt advice on the show before he chose Chelsie – said Matt’s behaviour in the months after filming wrapped was unusual.
"The weird thing with Matt and Chelsie is, straight after the finale happened, he went away, he went to the UK,” Matty J said on his new podcast, The Babble.
“Maybe Matt didn't realise how important that moment is because you can finally get to be together and have that relationship out in public.”
He also noted that he thought the timing of the breakup, which came just days after Angie Kent picked her winner, Carlin Sterritt, was ‘a little bit strategic’.
“Obviously there’s a contract for being on the show but that contract mainly states that you can’t take advantage of being on the Bachelor franchise, you can’t use the Bachelor or Bachelorette name to make more money,” Matty clarified.
“Hand on heart there’s nothing in there that states you have to be with that person you choose for a certain amount of time.”
