Charlotte Dawson: Why I Had My Implants Removed

When Charlotte Dawson first saw the images from a shoot she did with WHO in January, “I couldn’t believe how big my breasts looked, and not in a good way,” says the Foxtel presenter, who had breast augmentation in 1999 that took her from a 34B to a 34D.

Naturally swelling breast tissue had further increased Dawson’s bra size to an uncomfortable and impractical E cup. “I’m a size 10, but often dresses won’t fit me because I’m a size 14 in the top,” she explains.

More concerning was the fact that a recent ultrasound had revealed that Dawson’s implants, made from an outdated silicone capsule, had ruptured slightly. Cysts had also formed around the implants. In short: “I decided it was best to get them out as soon as possible,” says Dawson, 44.

Undergoing a six-hour operation in the care of Sydney cosmetic surgeon Dr Michael Miroshnik, Dawson had her implants removed and her natural breast tissue reshaped into a C cup. During the procedure, Miroshnik was surprised with his discovery. “We rarely see implants like that any more,” he tells WHO. “It’s like comparing a 15-year-old car to a brand-new one.”

Still, his patient was thrilled with the final result. “It’s fantastic that I’m all natural now,” says Dawson, who says she will never have plastic surgery again. “Back when I had the implants put in, I thought if I had big boobs people would think I was sexy and that would make me happy. It was the wrong motivation.”
