Celine Dion 'in charge' after 'controlling boy toy' reports

Celine Dion has spoken out about being ‘in charge’ of her life, following reports her inner circle is concerned about her ‘boy toy taking over her life’.

In a new interview for Allure, the 51-year-old music legend opened up about her long singing career and how she’s come into her own in the past few years.

"I’ve never felt as beautiful, or so in charge. When you do feel in charge, it gives you an extra voice,” Celine said.

“Even though I still use my voice for singing, I now have a little [extra] voice for raising my children, for making decisions. I even have a new album coming out."

Celine Dion’s friendship with Pepe Munoz

Celine’s words come just days after her platonic relationship with her 34-year-old backup dancer, Pepe Munoz, came under scrutiny, when friends of the star allegedly expressed their concerns about Pepe’s influence over her.

He’s been described as her ‘boy toy’, but Celine herself has said he is gay and her ‘best friend’.

According to reports, the My Heart Will Go On singer has been attached at the hip to 34-year-old Pepe, since her beloved husband, René Angélil, passed away at the age of 73 in 2016, after battling with throat cancer.

“Pepe is like her boy toy who is really trying to take over. He’s isolating her and people are feeling it,” an anonymous source told the publication.

“She’s in love with this guy and listens to everything he’s saying.

“People go to him when they have questions. He’s fully taken over.”

Celine’s inner circle speaks out

However, just on day later, Celine posted a statement from her friends to her Instagram page, where they said they were “saddened and disappointed” by what was said, labelling it “untrue gossip”.

“As the real members of Celine's ‘inner circle’, we are saddened and disappointed by an untruthful story that surfaced in the media on Monday, quoting multiple sources who claim they are part of the inner circle and that you have too much influence over Celine, and that you are isolating her,” the statement, which was addressed to Pepe, read.

“These ‘sources’ have nothing better to do than to spread untrue gossip. Don't let it get you down... and keep up the great work. We love you!”

It was signed off by Dave, Dee, Denis, Lina, Michel, Naomi, Suzanne, Sydney, Sylvie and Yves.

Dealing with her grief

Celine has previously spoken out about her friendship with Pepe, saying the 34-year-old gave her a lot of support after the passing of her husband.

“Pepe is gay,” she told Extra. “At first, I think some people did not know that.”

“The thing is that he’s my best friend and we dance together and he did so much for me and even just holding my hand… it’s something that I haven’t had for a long time.

“He did so much for me, for my mental health, my spirituality, my strength ― my inner strength.”
