Celeste Barber slams Instagram for censoring nude parody snap

Celeste Barber has called out Instagram after a nude parody photo she uploaded to her page was censored.

The Australian comedian is known on the social media site for her #celestechallengeaccepted posts, which sees her recreate celebrity photos in an authentic and hilarious way.

On Friday, Celeste decided to parody a professional photo model Candice Swanepoel has posted on her Instagram page, showing her nude, with a coat draped around her and a hand covering her modesty.

“You make me feel normal, acceptable and you give me the way to feel beautiful whatever I am. And you make me also laugh..like bonus,” one person commented on Celeste’s post.

“Raw and real beauty at its best. You are a real inspiration for many women to embrace their body for what it is,” another person commented.

However, while the original post by Candice was deemed acceptable by Instagram, Celeste’s fans, who wanted to reshare her post to their own Stories, were met with a warning notice.

“Your Post Goes Against Our Community Guidelines,” the warning read, with many fans saying the photo was removed from their Stories because it ‘went against Instagram’s community guidelines on nudity or sexual activity’.

Celeste was furious, taking to her stories to call out the double standard and slam the social media network for ‘body shaming’.

“Hey Instagram, sort out your body shaming standards, guys. It’s 2020, catch up!,” she wrote.

“Happy to chat/school you on all things regarding women’s bodies,” she continued.

Instagram’s local head of public policy Philip Chua told news.com.au: “This shouldn’t be happening and we are committed to addressing any inequity on our platforms.

“We expect to update our breast covering policies very soon, to make sure all body types are treated fairly.”

Celeste shared another nude parody shot yesterday, which showed her alongside Bella Hadid, with the caption: “Oh hi, just out here checking on your double standards”.
