Celebrity Apprentice 2022: Why the stars have hit the headlines

Celebrity Apprentice Australia is back pitting stars from different fields against each other to see just how good they are at business while raising money for a chosen charity at the same time.

But just who are the celebs taking place this year and where would you know them from?

Jodi Gordon

Who is she: Logie Award winning soap actress, model and Aussie sweetheart

How she's hit the headlines: She made headlines after she was found cowering in a bedroom during a police raid after her boyfriend at the time, Ryan Stokes, reported her missing and the occupant of the house at which she was found, a known bikie, reported that five armed men were trying to break in.

Jodi later apologised to friends and family for the worry she had caused.

Turia Pitt

Who is she: Author, motivational speaker and one of Australia's most inspirational women

How she's hit the headlines: While running a 100km ultra-marathon, she was caught in a wildfire and with the burn injuries that she received, wasn't expected to survive.

"Surviving against overwhelming odds, I’ve rebuilt my life and defied every expectation placed on me," she says on her website. Turia is not only inspirational for her grit and determination but also for her positive outlook.

And her biggest lesson from what she went through? "My accident taught me to be grateful for the people who are there for you and to make time for those relationships," she revealed on the Leadership Lessons podcast.

"At the end of the day, when things go down to the wire, it’s our relationships that are the most important thing."

Will and Woody

Who are they: National hosts of Australia's No. 1 Drive radio show on KIIS

How they've hit the headlines: Their former co-host Heidi Anderson claimed last month that Will and Woody disowned her when they were offered a show on a new network in 2018.

"I f**king hated them when they left because I felt like they disowned me," Heidi revealed on The Experts podcast. They have yet to reply to her claims.

Bronte Campbell

Who is she: Dual Olympic gold medallist and world champion swimmer

How she's hit the headlines: Outside her athletic achievements, it was probably the bombshell that Bronte feels she could have done so much more.

“I’ve been injured for five years, which is half of my swimming career," she told The Guardian just before the Tokyo Olympics last year.

Benji Marshall

Who is he: Rugby league great and Wests Tigers legend

How he's hit the headlines: Just after Benji was announced as the face of NRL in 2011, he was arrested for assault after hitting someone in retaliation for continued racially abuse.

‘‘Players are not always in the wrong but incidents such as these will always demand close scrutiny by the game and the public,’’ NRL chief executive David Gallop said in a statement at the time.

Despite this one event, Benji is a role model to often scandal-ridden NRL players.

Gamble Breaux

Who is she: Real Housewives of Melbourne star

How she's hit the headlines: Given the whole premise of the RHW franchise is about drama and scandal, it's not surprising that Gamble has hit the headlines a number of times. But the most explosive was probably when she was accused of being a stripper, prostitute and sex party host before appearing on the show.

However, given the accusations were a storyline on the show, we took them with a grain of salt!

Beck Zemek

Who is she: Married At First Sight's bride and socialite

How she's hit the headlines: During MAFS, she was busted kissing someone else on video, which was shown to her groom Jake at the reunion show.

Beck claimed on social media that only in the reality world were they still in a relationship and reminded her followers that she had written "leave" on three separate occasions on the show so had checked out of the relationship a long time ago.

Vince Colosimo

Who is he: Hollywood actor and Australian Film Institute award winner

How he's hit the headlines: His talent is not in doubt however he has made a few dubious choices in his personal life in the past.

Vince has been caught for driving offences including driving under the influence of methamphetamine (also known as ice) three times with a judge saying: "You're risking a jail term. If you're back here for a fourth time, it won't be pretty."

There hasn't been a fourth time and Vince has returned to acting and, of course, Celebrity Apprentice!

Samantha Jade

Who is she: Winner of The X Factor, ARIA Award winner and singer-songwriter

How she's hit the headlines: While Samantha had experienced some international success as a songwriter it was winning The X Factor in 2012 that really propelled her into the spotlight.

"I was so positive I wouldn’t win... ask anyone who knew me at that time... it was the biggest mind-blowing thing for me...." Samantha recalled in an interview with Around The Sound.

However, despite her reservations, she did win. "It was so euphoric, it was a 360 moment for me," she said.

Jean Kittson

Who is she: A queen of Australian comedy, trailblazer and author

How she's hit the headlines: Jean has not been afraid to talk about taboo topics before it was cool to talk about them such as the menopause.

"When I started getting menopausal, I realised no one talked about it,’’ Jean told Daily Telegraph back in 2014 when her book You’re Still Hot To Me about the topic came out. "I would have had friends who may already have been going through it, but it was never mentioned."

Now, at 67, she has released a book about parenting your parents in their old age, We Need to Talk About Mum and Dad.

Darren McMullen

Who is he: Television presenter and actor

How he's hit the headlines: Darren has hit the headlines a number of times due to his bad-boy antics. But his most famous was at the 2007 MTV Music Video Awards, where Scottish born Darren showed what a Scot wears under his kilt by baring his bare bottom.

The stunt cost him lucrative commercial deals at the time.

Jarrod Scott

Who is he: Face of Givenchy and international supermodel

How he's hit the headlines: As a model it is his job to be photographed looking good so he's yet to make a big impact outside his industry however the environment is something he cares deeply about.

“Thinking of how things would be when you have toxic waste run off, causing ocean acidification, and so many other things caused by climate change – I wanted to get involved on a bigger scale,” he told GQ.

Carla from Bankstown

Who is she: Assistant to former NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian and social media sensation

How she's hit the headlines: During the pandemic when Gladys Berejiklian was doing her daily press conferences, over on the socials, Carla was keeping people in stitches with her skits as Gladys's personal assistant.

"I enjoy bringing people that happiness, making them smile, especially during times like this," alter ego Benjamin James said. Hopefully, this is just the beginning for Carla, and Benjamin!

Ronnie Caceres

Who is he: Renovation expert and one of The Block's most successful All Stars

How he's hit the headlines: Ronnie and wife Georgia were at the centre of many a Block drama including being caught up in the cheating scandal which saw some teams get a peek at the production schedule on last year's Fans V Faves season.

And while they were fan favourites this time around in their original stint on the show they were enemy number one.

“We knew we were hated from the start, but we didn’t know to what lengths,” Ronnie told New Idea.

“It’s hard seeing what Sticks and Wombat and Josh and Elyse were saying about us – it was harsh. It’s like, ‘Where does this come from?’”

Eloni Vunakece

Who is he: Two-time Australian Ninja Warrior semi-finalist and former international NRL star

How he's hit the headlines: Eloni was forced to retire from the NRL after receiving 15 concussions, 10 of those in just one year.

“I was advised by a neurologist that it would be in my best interest to give up the game due to 10 concussions in the last 12 months,” Eloni told Fairfax Media.
