Cat Lost in Yellowstone Treks Over 900 Miles To Find His Beloved Family
Having a lost pet is one of the most difficult things that a dog or cat parent can go through — I say that as someone who has experienced it herself. It's been almost 10 years since my kitty, Flynn, got scared and escaped during a storm, and after a really difficult few weeks of pulling out all the stops to track him down, he never came back. Some lost pets will find new humans or go on adventures and be unable to find their way back after they leave home, which is totally heartbreaking, but once in awhile, we get a story with a happy ending like this one.
A Siamese Cat named Rayne Beau (pronounced "rainbow) went missing while on a camping trip to Yellowstone National Park with his family. But after two months passed, he somehow managed to find his way home... in a totally different state.
In this news story reported by KSBW Action News 8 on Wednesday, September 18, we meet cat parents Benny and Susanne Anguiano, who traveled from Salinas, California, to camp at Yellowstone National Park with their Siamese Cat in June.
Unfortunately, during the trip, Rayne Beau got spooked and ran off, and even after days of searching, including with the help of fellow campers and park rangers.
"It was the hardest day," Susanne said. "I felt like I was abandoning him."
Against all odds, they got a phone call two months later. Somehow, Rayne Beau found his way to Roseville, California — over 800 miles from Yellowstone — and thanks to his microchip, he was reunited with his mom and dad, though he looked "defeated" and out of energy once he finally found a human who could help him.
They may never know what happened during those two months or how Rayne Beau managed to navigate his way back to his home state, but at this point, it seems like they're just happy to see him again, safe and sound.
More About Rayne Bough's Return
According to what Benny and Susanne told NBC News, they weren't very optimistic about Rayne Bough being found because a park ranger had told them that a pack of coyotes had attacked a small dog in the area, so there was a good chance that their kitty would be in danger.
But somehow, the impossible happened — though poor Rayne Bough did lose a lot of weight on his journey home. When he started, he was 14 pounds, and when he was found he only weighed eight pounds.
Now, the couple has given Rayne Bough a global tracker to prevent this from ever happening again, and Rayne Bough is busy recovering and getting back to life as he knew it before he got lost.
Hopefully, Rayne Bough has had enough adventures to last him the rest of his life!
