This is why you can't stop looking at your phone
We’re all guilty of taking a peek at our phone during work every now and then. But did you know that the more you do it, the more likely it is that you’re unhappy at work?
According to new research by Rise, over half (52 per cent) of Aussies who are distracted by their smartphone or social media during work hours, also admit they would be less distracted if they felt happier at work.
Just over 30 per cent of respondents admitted to being regularly distracted by their phone while at work, with over half of us checking our phones or social media up to 10 times a day.
“It’s clear from the research that if people feel happier at work they will be more engaged and focused, so get less distracted at work,” Ross Reekie, Founder of Rise, said.
Of course being distracted and spending time on our phones or browsing Facebook doesn’t bode well for our productivity at work.
Nearly a quarter of Aussies (24%) said they spend up to one and a half hours distracted every working day.
Of that time, seven out of 10 people spend at least half an hour on their phones at work.
“When workers are distracted too often or for too long, it indicates that they may be unhappy in their work, this often results in a lack of motivation to get work done and has a knock-on effect on a company’s success,” Ross continued.
“By making meaning and happiness of employees a business priority, leaders can ensure higher levels of engagement, commitment and productivity.”
