Can the paleo diet make you fat?


The paleo diet, which people either love or love to hate, can apparently make you fat, a new study says.

The Australian study published in Nutrition and Diabetes, found the infamous caveman diet to not be the weight-loss cure many people thought it was cracked up to be.

The diet, which advocates for foods that existed during the paleolithic times, has been under ongoing scrutiny for a few years.

Those who stick by the high fat and limited carbohydrate diet claim it’s not only healthy, it also helps you lose weight.

However, this new study proves otherwise.

"A low-carbohydrate high-fat diet increases weight gain," the study says.

It tested a high-fat, low-carb diet on mice, and within two months they were recorded to have "gained 15 per cent of their body weight and developed painful diseases," Mashable says.

The mice also demonstrated an increased intolerance to glucose, which can be linked to pre-diabetes.

The scientists were careful to note in the findings that mice and humans have different metabolisms, and might not respond to the diet in the same way.

However, no matter what science says, there will always be loyal paleo followers out there for as long as we live.
