What you can expect from the upcoming 'controversial' season of MAFS

It’s offical, the countdown for season six of Married At First Sight as begun – 10 days and counting, people.

We’re sure many viewers will be thinking, how on earth can last year be topped? Well don’t worry, here at Yahoo Lifestyle we’ve been assured the gift that’s going to keep on giving is, you guessed it, continuous drama.

Can we get a “YAAAAAS”?

Relationship experts from the show, Mel Schilling and Dr Trisha Stratford, have given us full disclosure the drama, as well as the love, is going to be back and it’s here to stay.

“Last year we had that one big event that really defined the season, and I feel like this season we almost have that type of event happening weekly,” Mel told Yahoo Lifestyle. “It’s just consistently surprising us!”

Trish echoed Mel saying that we’ll have last year’s drama, but we need to “amp it up even more”, adding there’s also a lot of “controversy” this season.

But as well as the constant dramatics, there’s a lot of love this season.

“We have love this year – we have loved-up couples,” Trish continued. “We have the controversy, but we also have the love.”

It seems there’s going to be a whole new dynamic between the couples this year too, with an older group and younger group of people.

“We have more older couples in their late thirties and early forties,” Trish explained. “And we see the difference between the older group and younger group, some of the older ones even call the younger ones out.”

In another curveball, Mel revealed this year couples have been “thrown into some new challenges to try and emulate real life more closely”.

Discussing one particular participant, both Mel and Trish admitted Elizabeth will be a very “complex” character whose story viewers will see unravel throughout the season.

Trish explained that the blonde beauty is “very confident”, but also has a “mask”.

“She’s a very complex character,” Mel explained. “You’re really only seeing the tip of the iceberg in the promo.

“There’s a lot more to Elizabeth than just making funny faces and those talons of fingernails of hers.

“She actually goes through a really tough journey in the process.”

This has just gotten us even more excited to watch – January 28 couldn’t come sooner.
