Brooke Shields' Lookalike Daughter Rowan Reveals Serious Health Diagnosis
Brooke Shields’ lookalike daughter has opened up about the serious health diagnosis she received about six years ago.
Rowan, the popular model and actress’ oldest daughter, was in her first year of high school in 2018 when she started losing weight “really rapidly,” she recalled during a recent interview with People. Despite attempting to make up for the weight loss by eating more, “I was just losing weight even faster the more I would eat.”
The now-21-year-old then began experiencing problems with her eyesight, got an infection on one of her toes, and was “constantly peeing,” all of which she now knows were “blaring, red flags” for Type 1 diabetes. Rowan finally got her diagnosis later in 2018 and began learning how to take care of herself as a young person living with the disease.

Shields, 59, told the magazine that her daughter “became completely autonomous” when it came to managing the disease and her medication, with Rowan learning to give herself insulin as a young teen. She “had to grow up quickly,” her mother said
The college senior now uses an insulin pump and patch to track her body’s glucose readings, and described keeping tabs on the disease as “a 24/7 job.”
Shields and her husband, film director Chris Henchy, welcomed Rowan in 2003, about two years after they tied the knot in 2001. The couple also have a younger daughter, 18-year-old Grier.
While Rowan has been away at college for a few years, this marks the first time that Shields and Henchy sent both daughters away to school. In a vulnerable video that Shields shared on Instagram earlier this week, she revealed she is “officially an empty nester” after watching Rowan and Grier leave for college.

“It’s not easy for the moms,” Shields said as she wiped tears from her eyes, adding that it was “so weird” having both of her kids out of the house.
