Britney Spears' explosive tell-all memoir: What you need to know
From her conservatorship to a Justin Timberlake baby bombshell, Britney's finally sharing her own story, in her own words.
Britney Spears is set to release a tell-all memoir on October 24, titled The Woman In Me.
The book is described as a 'brave and astonishingly moving story about freedom, fame, motherhood, survival, faith, and hope' as Britney tells her own story, in her own words for the first time.
What you need to know
Britney openly speaks about the conservatorship she was under for 13 years – with her father and lawyer having control over her career, finances, and decisions – saying she felt like a 'child robot'.
Britney also speaks about an abortion she had while with Justin Timberlake in the early '00s. According to the book Britney was conflicted, but writes that Justin 'definitely wasn't happy' about the pregnancy, resulting in a termination.
Britney details her career from childhood through to adulthood, touching on the 'controversial' moments: from her performance with a snake at the VMAS through to her decision to shave her head and her tumultuous relationship with her family.
❗ It’s hard to believe, but…
In a chapter, Britney details that the casting for the lead role of Allie Hamilton in The Notebook came down to her and Rachel McAdams.
Britney wrote that after playing the lead role of Lucy Wagner in Crossroads the year before, she realised she was method acting and struggled to break out of character for the duration of playing Lucy.
"Living that way, being half yourself and half a fictional character, is messed up. After a while, you don’t know what’s real anymore," Britney wrote.
🗣️ What they said
Britney Spears, in an exclusive interview with People:
"Over the past 15 years or even at the start of my career, I sat back while people spoke about me and told my story for me. After getting out of my conservatorship, I was finally free to tell my story without consequences from the people in charge of my life.”
Source reveals to Page Six that Justin Timberlake is 'concerned' about the book:
"He’s very curious what she’ll reveal from their relationship,” one insider said. “It’s eating at him.”

After the Justin Timberlake baby bombshell, fans have taken to social media to speculate the song 'Everytime' was actually about the loss Britney felt after her abortion, and not actually a breakup song for Justin as originally thought.
The film clip for the song shows Britney in a hospital as a woman gives birth, with fans saying they now 'understand' the reference.
