This post contains spoilers from the second part of Bridgerton season 3.

Daniel Francis is reflecting on how his Bridgerton character, Lord Marcus Anderson, is getting another chance at love with Lady Violet Bridgerton.

In the second half of season 3, Marcus and the Bridgerton matriarch (Ruth Gemmell) agreed to get their affairs “in order” before pursuing a relationship. After Marcus mends his relationship with his sister Lady Danbury and Violet’s daughter gets married, the pair share a dance together.

“I think they are both enjoying the process of finding each other out,” Francis exclusively tells PEOPLE. “It's a discovery process. And I think that's the beautiful thing about their story, which we haven't seen in Bridgerton up until this point, is that it's the second chance.”

“It's the second go, and that brings with it a whole different energy,” he continues. “And so I get the sense from them that they're still a little bit nervous when they're in private with each other. They're confident, but they're a little bit nervous when they're in privacy with each other, but they're enjoying the ‘get to know you’ phase, discovery.”

As fans may recall, Marcus admitted that his first marriage wasn’t a love match but he hoped to find one in the first half of the season while Violet’s late husband, Viscount Edmund Bridgerton, whom she loved deeply, died before the birth of their youngest child.

As for what the future holds for the pair, the British actor thinks “they’re both deserving of love.”

“They both lost their partners and both have been devoted husband and wife,” he adds. “And so you'd love to see their happily ever after, and the second chances do exist and they do happen. Now, obviously for me, I'm kind of interested in how they get there, the journey, what is that like? Yeah, what is it like? Because we don't know, it's not in the novels.”

When asked if he could imagine a season of Bridgerton centered around Violet, Francis responded, “Absolutely. Violet's one of the beloved characters. So she's been so devoted as a mother and really just kind of subordinated her own desire to the point where she hasn't even felt the desires.”

He continues, “She experienced love and she's gone, ‘That's it. I want it for my children.’ But I think what you start to see is that the children are leaving the nest and there is a very real point in the future when they would all have flown the nest and what would be almost tragic and painful is for her to just be alone, on her own.”

“For her to have that, to experience that would be beautiful,” he concludes.
