Outrage as groomsman hijacks wedding with dance-floor proposal
A photo of a groomsman proposing to a bridesmaid at her close friend's wedding has caused outrage online for breaking some serious wedding etiquette.
In the snap shared to Reddit, the bridesmaid is seen standing in the middle of the empty dance floor, holding one hand to her mouth in surprise while clutching the bride’s bouquet in the other.
The lavender suit-clad groomsman is down on one knee, holding out the engagement ring to his beloved while stunned guests look on.
Stealing the limelight
The jaw-dropping moment - which has resurfaced after being shared by a wedding attendee back in September - has stirred up some seriously strong opinions online.
The wedding insider admitted that he knew both the bridesmaid and the groomsman, yet still chose a rather sassy caption for the pic, “A perfect time to propose.”
Adding insult to injury, the poster revealed that not only did the newly-engaged couple willingly upstage their friend’s big day - they did it without their knowledge or blessing.
“The guy didn’t even ask the married couple. So I would argue this is a bit past rude,” he added.
Redditers react
The Reddit community unleashed their fury at the couple’s behaviour, branding them “rude” and saying that they’d “kick them out” of the event.
One user suggested the newlyweds should have demanded the newly-engaged couple to cough up half the cost of the wedding.
Attention seeking
Others saw it as an opportunity to share their own experiences where their friends or family had hogged the spotlight, such as the time an aunt announced she was getting a divorce at her niece’s wedding.
Ouch!
