Brendan Gleeson Boards Oscar-Qualified ‘The Boat’ As EP

EXCLUSIVE: Oscar nominee Brendan Gleeson (The Banshees of Inisherin) has joined The Boat, an Oscar-qualified live-action short from writer-director Luke Morgan, as executive producer.

Based on a true story, the film follows a father who, in discovering that his daughter Dhukia is showing the early symptoms of leprosy, must make a devastating choice.

Dhukia’s story was the inspiration behind the Global Leprosy Eradication Programme, an initiative on the part of The Mission To End Leprosy, which is a global network of organizations looking to help end the oldest known and still existing communicable disease in human history. The short looks to the Oscars after winning qualifying awards at the Foyle Film Festival and Cork Film Festival.

Jake and Luke Morgan produced via their Ireland-based Morgan Brothers. Currently, the film can be viewed on online platform Omeleto.

Said EP Gleeson, “The Morgan Brothers’ THE BOAT is a powerful short film about the decisions and sacrifices we make to protect the ones we love. This award-winning short film demonstrates the importance of using storytelling as a means to bring issues hidden under the surface to light. I am delighted to be associated with it on its continued journey to reach as wide an audience as possible.”

Recently garnering his first Oscar nomination for his turn opposite Colin Farrell in Martin McDonagh’s The Banshees of Inishirin, Gleeson is coming off of Joker: Folie à Deux, which hit theaters in October. Upcoming projects include Spider-Noir with Nicolas Cage for Amazon and H Is for Hawk opposite Claire Foy. He is repped by CAA, The Agency in Ireland, and Principal Entertainment LA.
