Breakfast show duo Ben and Liam have announced they’re leaving Triple J, after almost three years at the radio station’s hosting helm.

The shock news comes as the platform revealed current Weekend Arvos presenters Sally & Erica would take over the early morning reins from next year.

However, the split doesn’t appear to have any reminisce of bad blood, with the pair leaving to move back to South Australia where they’re already said to have a new radio gig lined up.

“Waking up at 4am is far from ideal but when you love what you do it’s easy,” they said as the news broke on Tuesday.

“We’ve had an absolute blast at triple j. Never in our wildest dreams did we think two dweebs doing community radio in Adelaide would get a crack at a gig like this.”

“Thanks for waking up with us, listening to our s*** talk and sharing your stories, we’ll be forever grateful. The last three years are something we’ll never forget.”

While their run on the national airwaves has been largely successful, it didn’t start that way when the relatively inexperienced duo took over from longtime presenters Matt and Alex in early 2017.

“Taking after a colossal show like ‘Matt & Alex’, it’s tough. You don’t expect everyone to like it — we still don’t. We understand that,” he said on-air later that year.

“We see all the posts, we see all the comments. And I can honestly say I’ve had nights where I’ve cried myself to sleep because of stuff like that.”

Ben and Liam’s final show will take place next Friday, November 1.
