Royal fans point out bizarre item in Queen's photo with new UK Prime Minister

Royal fans have proved once again that they never miss a beat when it comes to dissecting photos of the Monarch.

Photographers captured the historic meeting between the Queen and the UK’s newly chosen Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, which took place in the drawing room at Buckingham Palace. But fans couldn’t help but point out that Her Majesty appears to have added a very modern item to the traditionally-furnished space.

It looks like the Queen has bought a fan to give her some respite from the heatwave in the UK, and settled on a Dyson HP04 Pure HotCool Purifying Fan Heater, which retails for $898 on The Good Guys’ website.

“I usually enjoy seeing HM The Queen meeting a new PM. However, I was more admiring her choice of @Dyson fan,” one person wrote on Twitter, “Probably to help clear the mugginess from the room......”

Protocol break

Boris Johnson can be seen bending his head in a polite curtsy to the Queen in the photo, with the Monarch dressed in a pretty blue floral dress.

However, according to NBC and Euronews journalist, Vincent McAviney, the new Prime Minister broke protocol when he left the palace and stepped into his new home, 10 Downing Street.

According to McAviney, Boris told staff the Queen said to him: “I don’t know why anyone would want the job [of Prime Minister].”

“The PM revealed it during a tour in Number 10 before being told off by staff not to repeat those things so loudly,” he tweeted.

It is considered against royal protocol to repeat a conversation you have with the Queen.

Buckingham Palace released a statement saying Boris kissed the Queen’s hand during their meeting.

“The Queen received in Audience The Right Honourable Boris Johnson MP this afternoon and requested him to form a new Administration,” the palace said.

“Mr Johnson accepted Her Majesty's offer and kissed hands upon his appointment as Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury.”
