'My age doesn’t matter': Katherine Kelly Lang on being Bold and Beautiful at 58

It’s hard to imagine a time when iconic soap star Katherine Kelly Lang hasn’t been appearing on our TV screens.

The 58-year-old has portrayed the inimitable Brooke Logan in long-running CBS TV series The Bold and the Beautiful since it premiered back in 1987.

Today, Katherine is a household name and multi-award winner, with a successful fashion label and, of course, a thriving acting career, all on the go.

But it hasn’t always been this way, as the mother - and grandmother - tells Yahoo Lifestyle over the phone while she was down under to promote her kaftan line with TVSN.

“There were times when I’d run out of money and I’d have to go get a ‘normal’ job like as a waitress, or cleaning a house or in a clothing store,” Katherine says of the early days of her career.

“You never knew when your next job was going to come,” she says.

That all changed when, at the age of 25, Katherine was cast as Brooke, a role that’s seen her remain a big star to this day.

“I think a large part of that is because I’ve been on The Bold and the Beautiful for 32 years, you know, so I’ve constantly been working,” she explains.

“It doesn’t matter [about] my age or anything,” she adds.

Katherine shares her youthful secrets

The blonde beauty went on to spill her secrets to maintaining the youthful glow and fit figure that first captivated viewers back in the late ‘80s.

“I definitely think health and wellness is so important,” she says. “You have to take care of yourself”.

“You’ve got to get up, you’ve got to get moving, you’ve got to watch what you eat,” she continues, adding that she and her partner-of-five-years Dominique Zoida try to stick to organic, non-gluten and low-sugar foods.

As the daughter of two Olympic athletes - her father was ski jumper Keith R. Wegeman and her mother, actress Judith Lang, was also a swimmer - Katherine loves exercise, in particular competing in triathlons and Iron Man events, but encourages everyone to “do what works for you”.

In terms of beauty tips she’s picked up during her decades-long career, Katherine tells us she likes to “keep it as simple as possible” with a quick blow-dry, some foundation, mascara and eyeliner.

“I’m not good at doing my makeup!” she laughs.

Kaftans by KKL

Katherine credits her “incredible” time on B&B for “[opening] up a lot of opportunities” - and one of those was establishing her line of kaftans five years ago.

The range, which she runs with her Aussie design partner Toni Moon, not only includes traditional kaftans but also dresses, tunics, tops, kimono-style cover ups and even jeans.

“There’s something for everyone,” she says.

The kaftans, in particular, are a summer staple for Katherine - “It’s a great way to be at the beach but you’re not totally showing skin”.
