Bluey episode about parenting while hungover 'shocks': 'As relatable as it gets'

Parents have been left in stiches over Chilli and Bandit's 'hangover' in season three of Bluey.

If there’s one cartoon that manages to be just as entertaining for children as it is for adults, it’s got to be Bluey.

The Australian ABC show, which has been on air since 2018, was the talk of Reddit recently after parents noticed that Bluey’s parents, Chilli and Bandit, appeared to be hungover for the duration of it.

Titled ‘Whale Watching’, the episode starts by showing Chilli and Bandit sprawled out on the floor and couch, apparently hungover from a big New Year’s Eve party.

“I never want to leave this couch,” Chilli says in a monotone voice, with Bandit replying: “Aw Happy New Years. I do not have the energy for games today.”

The episode continues, showing Bluey and Bingo asking if they can try feeding Chilli when she pretends to be a whale.

“That might help actually,” Chilli says, perking up.

Bandit jokingly said the kids should fetch ‘something very healthy and green’ for Chilli, with the clearly hungover mum saying, ‘Usually, but today, this one wants corn chips, uh and some cream cheese.”

Bluey and Bingo go on to tell Chilli she was ‘dancing on the barbecue tables' the night before, before their parents turn on the TV to distract them.

“It’s got to be done,” Bandit says.

The Blue Heeler’s hangovers didn’t go unnoticed on Reddit, with one person starting a thread asking: “What Bluey episode made you shocked the most?”

“The episode when Bandit and Chilli are hungover (Whale Watching),” one person wrote.

“They were tired and hungover after a New Year’s party at Muffin’s house,” another wrote.

"Whale Watching is one of the best episodes of Bluey... hungover Chilli and Bandit are as relatable as it gets," one Twitter user wrote.

"The episode of Bluey where the parents are hungover, Whale Watching, is one of the best 9 minutes of TV history," another user wrote.

Others spoke about the episodes which made them do a double take, with one person sharing that their ‘jaw dropped when the vet told Bluey that the budgie died. I was expecting a fun caring for animals episode, not getting a lesson in the finality of death’.

"I was shocked with the first episode of Bluey I paid attention to which was escape. Where Bluey goes, 'You're going somewhere without us?' and Bandit says sarcastically, 'Yeah, hard to believe isn't it?' I haven't heard sarcasm is a children's show from what I can remember," another wrote.
