Black Friday used to be a bit of an American thing, but over the last few years has really taken off in Australia. Now, most retailers are offering insane discounts or deals on the last Friday of November.

This year, that day falls on Friday, November 26.

While this day is an excellent opportunity to get your hands on seriously cheap products, you might find yourself ending up with a pile of unneeded items, missing out on what you actually wanted to buy, and spending way over budget.

It’s best to be prepared

The saying goes, ‘fail to prepare, prepare to fail’.

First things first, make your wishlist for Black Friday.

What are items you’ve wanted for a while, but they’ve been too expensive?

And what about Christmas? Couldn’t this massive sale be used to kickstart your Christmas day shopping?

Order your wishlist in the item’s priority, and note the retailer that has them.

Get cozy with your favourite stores

If you know you’ll be wanting something from, say, The Iconic or Amazon, it’s best to get ready to shop with them before Black Friday comes around.

Create a profile on the website with your shipping details and debit or credit card.

For an item that’s been slashed down 70% or 80%, with limited quantities available, those couple of minutes it takes to fill out those details at the checkout might be the difference between you getting it or not.

Also, sign up to said anticipated retailers email alerts.

Most retailers start advertising sales 1-2 days before they go live, and you’ll be the first to know before the sale begins.

Don’t forget about Cyber Monday!

Cyber Monday was initially created to be the online shopping counterpart to the physical retail sales of Black Friday.
